Comments: I have been researching your region since discovering the name Arnold LANGEMANN. I very much wish to learn about his origins, his biography and family history if known and documented. Arnold LANGEMANN was a Richter (Judge) of Hamm and Rhynern who in 1603 was mentioned in the Prozessakten des Heessener Prozesses Fiskus gegen Else Lindemann (Linnemann). This is cited in Archive Boeselager-Hoellinghofen, Nr. 17. It could possibly be determined that my ancestor who is identified below, is connected in some fashion with events of 1603 in Heessen.
My own ancestor was Arnoldt LANGEMANN, (He renamed himself as Arnoldus MACRANDER) born 1567, in Helsen, (Bad Arolsen), Waldeck, Hessen. His father was Gercke LANGEMANN, a vollspaenner in Helsen. He attended Wittenberg U., matriculating in 1587. He was secretary to Graf. Bernhard II, von Waldeck-Eisenberg, Bishop of Osnabrueck until 1591. He was advisor in Corbach to Graf. von Waldeck-Eisenberg. School rector in Mengeringhausen, 1592. Married in 1594 with Margarethe NICOLAI, sister of Pfarrer Phillip NICOLAI. In 1608 he is recorded as living in Neiderwildungen, Waldeck as a Procurator (Rechtanwalt). He formerly was advisor to the Grafen von Waleck-Eisenberg and Waldeck-Wildungen until 1600. Josias MACRANDER, his eldest son was a young student in Wildungen, 1602-1605, and his daughter, Elisabeth MACRANDER (RUPPEL) was born 1603, supposedly in Wildungen. It may be possible, that Arnoldt LANGEMANN (a.k.a. Arnoldus MACRANDER) served in Heesen some periods of time between 1600 and 1608. The MACRANDER sons both attended Giessen U. in 1609 and later. Josias remained in Giessen and Johannes went to Wetzlar am Lahn. Some descendents went to the Netherlands, United States, Canada, Brazil. Others were in Kurfalz and two families were in Strassbourg, Alsace. Some remain today in Germany and are in business as the Macrander Group. GmbH.

Would members of your English Club be interested in helping solve this historical mystery?

Any assistance would be most interesting.

Sincerly,

Jimmie D. Macrander

Comments: Found this page while looking for an old story I wrote (I'm a business reporter in Silicon Valley, located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California) I'd heard of a town called Hamm but wasn't sure it was true. How very nice to have a town with my surname. My grandfather was 100 percent German-American. I have no ideal if my family is from there but I'd like to think we are. Anyway, just saying hello - AFH

Comments: Dear Friends
It is lovely to see your website about Hamm. I used to live there on Fasannenstr and was stationed in Cromwell Barracks. I was also a founder member of the Hammer Eisenbahn Freunde. I was only there for 18 months but had a wonderful time and made many German friends. If you come across Uwe Muller, who was a good friend of mine please give him my email address and ask him to get in touch.

Kind regards
Peter
