Radio Reception in Hamm

Let's consider radio reception in Hamm, reception of English-speaking stations, that is.

Your #1 choice has got to be BFBS, as a matter of fact.
You're going to get strong FM signals from BFBS 1 at 96.5 MHz (Langenberg) and 103.0 MHz (Bielefeld).

It's the classic BFBS service we grew accustomed to from the 1950's which has turned out to be called BFBS 1 lately, meaning that a new service, BFBS 2, had taken to the air in the 1990's.
What a shame none of their transmitters being able to reach our town. The one located at Sennelager at 105.0 MHz interferes with Radio Lippe Welle Hamm,  no chance of picking it up here. It's a pity because BFBS 2 is to redistribute material from BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 2, and the BBC World Service.

If you want to pick up anything from the BBC, you have to listen to the old longwave frequency of 198 kHz for Radio 4. Two frequencies in the mediumwave band, 909 kHz and 673 kHz, provide poor reception of BBC Radio 5 Live.
On the contrary, the frequency of 648 kHz would provide reasonable results for the BBC World Service in the mediumwave band.

talkSPORT is to be heard on 1053 kHz and 1089 kHz at night times.

Ireland's RTE is to be heard at night on mediumwave at 567 kHz.

1215 kHz mediumwave, that'sVirgin Radio's powerful signal, evening and night time.

Capital Gold from London is hard to find, but at times you may listen to it on mediumwave 1548 kHz.

American stations are hard to be found, actually.

There's AFN Frankfurt at 873 kHz in the mediumwave band. You ought to have a good antenna. Most car radios will be able to pick up the signal during daylight hours. In the evening, things get hard after sunset, but are to improve about midnight. There's another faint signal on 1143 kHz from Mönchengladbach and Bitburg.

The Voice Of America station VOA Munich is to be heard after dusk on 1197 kHz. Most programs target at Eastern-European countries, but once in a while, you'll be able to pick up an English transmission.
